Pinging and Search Engine Optimization
Jul 31, 2010 SEO
A lot of people I know use pinging as a part of their SEO campaign. Some people say that site pinging contributes to their linkbuilding efforts. Well, for this post, I’ll share my insights about the effects of pinging in SEO.
Pinging has a great potential, it only differs in effect for every site. It has been a rumor that pinging somehow signals search engine spiders to re-index a specific website.
Given the statement about search engine spiders above, we can say that pinging contributes to our SEO efforts, but not for linkbuilding.
If the rumors about faster re-indexing is true, a good technique would be to ping not only your sites but as well as the sites linking to you. We all know that a site linking to you will pass PR once it has been indexed by Google. So, share the love and ping them sites! Besides, pinging only takes a minute taken away from your SEO activity.
However, given the pattern that Google counts your backlinks somehow when it re-indexes, pinging the sites linked to you I suppose would be useless, but it’s better to have a great backlink amount during re-indexing to ensure that there will be a significant change.
Pinging everyday without no linking activity would be useless. Pinging, without linkbuilding and other SEO efforts, is useless.
These are some sites that sends pings for free.
Okay, I don’t know if overdoing this can be bad, but I’m pretty sure that it won’t be good since I believe you cannot ping and ping search engine spiders to re-index your site all the time. They have other things to do, just like you.But as for forcing them to do so, there could be consequences, and I don’t want to test it out.

Online Reputation Management (ORM)
Jul 25, 2010 SEO
Online Reputation Management (ORM) is my favorite campaign for SEO. This is one of the most challenging projects for me, as this involves ranking not only one site, but several of them.
What is ORM?
Online Reputation Management refers to building social media profiles and blog reviews and making them rank for the client’s brand name or brand name plus the word “scam”. The purpose of Online Reputation Management is to eliminate negative reviews for your clients to make them a credible online business or person.
Is this ethical?
As long as you are doing this for businesses or people that has been written some negative articles just for fun or to funnel a business’ clients, this is very ethical since the client’s business or personality is being ruined by his competitors, and only you, a Google Jedi Warrior can save him. Of course, not unless you are doing an ORM campaign for a killer, a scammer, or something related to that.
How do you do it?
The basic thing to do in Online Reputation Management is to first setup the blogs and sites that you will use to cover whatever site you are going to eliminate on the Search Engine Ranking Pages (SERPs). Social media profiles can also be used, since they rank quite faster than anything else.
Then, writing something good about a client is normally done, but it would be better to talk about something the client does just to make your ORM campaign look credible. Remember that if users look for all the results and sees that everything looks like flowery reviews, it would be a lot obvious that this was a manipulated campaign. Product reviews, personal blogs that states the client in one part, or anything like a “special thanks to” statement would do it.
Now comes the hard (but fun) part. You are now into the process of burying the competitor. Of course, you are not Matt Cutts to say “Let that site be removed from the search engines!” so you have to make an effort in outranking the negative site. You may do some or all of the following for you to outrank the negative site.
- Build links for your created blog sites and social media profiles
- Regularly update the blog sites that you created
- Make some connections for your social media profile, and possibly update your status regularly for it to be recached.
- Chase your enemy’s backlinks.
SEO Trivia: “Chasing” backlinks simply refers to building links from where the negative site is linked. If he has links from social bookmarking sites, that would be better since it is a lot easier to follow. Backlinks from link exchanges though and some of the author’s blog links is impossible to chase though, so don’t even mind it.
